Hypermart staff in CBT trial over beer sales

JOHOR BARU: Two hypermarkets employees claimed trial at a Magistrates Court here to criminal breach of trust for allegedly selling alcoholic beverages for their own profit.
Jaime Sarah, 32, and Shafie Hassan, 40, were charged with selling 100 cartons of beer worth RM12,348 belonging to Giant Hypermarket.
They had allegedly committed the offence between 4pm and 6pm on Jan 20 at the hypermarket’s outlet in Plentong.
The offence is classified under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of between one and 10 years imprisonment, whipping and a fine upon conviction.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the offence. Magistrate Rasidah Roslee fixed bail at RM8,000 each and set May 12 for trial.
As of press time, neither accused had posted bail.
